REvive Vitality Drink Review

Have you ever needed an afternoon pick me up and turned to one of those energy shots? Guilty as charged over here. I chugged those things every time I had to drive to and from LA from Davis back in my college days. The problem with those things are 1) They taste pretty terrible and 2) You crash later.

Wouldn't you much prefer something that tastes great, doesn't make you crash later and is made with REAL ingredients? REvive is what you've been looking for. It's a 2.5 oz. vitality shot made with 21 super fruits, packed with antioxidants, green tea, vitamins and all that good stuff that's naturally found in fruit. Some of these many super fruits include mangosteen, goji, elderberry and prickly pear; definitely not ingredients you see in your average product let alone energy boost. What I love most about the RE products besides how they're 100% real is that with continued use they actually help your body with the antioxidants and natural nutrients!

I chugged one of these REvive shots last week while I was enduring the madness known as Comic Con. In case you didn't know, Comic Con isn't so much a vacation so much as it is a nerd's ultimate mission. I only slept about 4-5 hours a night, stood in lines for hours and crashed out as soon as I got back to my hotel. The REvive shot definitely proved to be a pick me up!

The smell almost reminded me of fruit leather I used to eat as a kid. It smelled like almost like grape but definitely like a blend of aromatics. My first sip surprised me as it wasn't sickeningly sweet like other energy drinks I usually have. It was a balance of sweet and sour but not bitter and didn't taste chemically. The pulpy nature of the drink definitely surprised me! I knew REvive was made with all these fruits but I didn't expect the puree to still have some mouthfeel, it was a shock at first but I enjoyed it. It reminded me of a less pulpy orange juice.

Personally, I'll definitely try these again. I don't feel like I'm drinking chemicals with REvive, I feel almost healthier using these vitality shots since I'm getting a ton of fruits I might not have daily otherwise. RE also makes a larger version of REvive called REvitalize, think of it as the bulk version of REvive. The bottle has 16 servings of the 2 oz. daily you need to feel great everyday!

To try REvive and REvitalize for yourself head on over to Costco.com, you can find them on Amazon! RE products are also available at your local specialty grocery store such as Whole Foods, Sprouts, Bristol Farms and the Vitamin Shoppe!

A-Sha Dry Noodle Review

The 626 Night Market is this weekend at the Santa Anita Racetrack bringing some amazing Asian delicacies and a plethora of vendors selling all sorts of goodies!

One of the vendors attending the second weekend of the 626 Night Market is A-Sha Dry Noodles. The company just recently broke into the US market and produce instant noodles. Their product is unique though, instead of using precooked fried noodles A-Sha noodles are completely air-dried and don't contain any preservatives or MSG!

I decided to try the Hakka Flat Noodle with Spicy Sesame Oil. Upon opening the package I immediately noticed a difference between these noodles and the maruchan or Cup o' Noodle kind. The noodles were much thicker and didn't have that brittle, fragile texture. These were much more sturdy and didn't break apart every time I touched them. I also loved how they weren't pre-coated in a flavoring powder or packed with random veggies. Yes, I'm talking about you Cup o' Noodles.

Similar to packaged ramen you find at 99 Ranch, this product needs to be cooked on a stove. Boil some water and let the noodles cook in the boiling water for 5 minutes then drain. It's that easy!

After draining the noodles they looked exactly like fresh pasta. They were firm and had some chew to them, definitely a step up from that gummy, gooey texture you sometimes get with other instant noodles.

After you drain the cooked noodles you add the included sauce and can even add veggies or meat to make a complete meal. The Spicy Sesame Oil included with the pack I tried was packed with heat which I appreciated as someone who LOVES spicy food. What was nice about the flavor is that it wasn't just hot, it also had a sweet and salty flavor with the heat on the backend.

Look how long those noodles are! It's unheard of! Next time I'll add some beef, veggies and some eggs to turn this into a spicy chow mein! It would make a delicious meal for one or a spicy side dish to share!

Aside from this Spicy Sesame flavor A-Sha offers several other flavors such as Mandarin, Sesame, Spicy and Barbecue.

A-Sha Dry Noodle will be at the 626 Night Market, you can find them at booth E-1 near the food trucks! They'll be serving up some delicious dishes that are sure to be a hit with all the market visitors and will have some of these instant noodles for sale!

The Lobos Truck: A Review

As an avid food truck lovers and one of us previously being fully fledged vegetarian, The Lobos Truck was Lili's first food truck experience back into the meat eating world. The first impression I got from the truck was the friendly staff and especially the warm and outgoing chef who goes by the name of Queso. I must say a person whose nickname is that of a food, almost always has a positive correlation with the taste and quality of their product. When we were served our food it was a pleasant surprise to see that we got full portions of their menu items instead of small tastings that food blog writers are used to.

Keogh's Crisps: Review

Back in March I wrote an article on Keogh's for Foodbeast. They had created the perfect St. Patrick's Day snack food, Shamrock and Sour Cream Crisps! These Ireland born chips, aka crisps, as their known across the pond, are only available in the US on the East Coast for now, but the company was kind enough to send us a variety of their Irish crisps to try for ourselves here in LA!

Review: [desi]gn cakes & cupcakes

A few weeks ago I attended the IE Cupcake Fair hosted by IEShineOn and was so excited to see that [desi]gn cakes & cupcakes was attending! I was first introduced to [desi]gn cakes & cupcakes last year at Cupcake Challenge LA where they competed with their Buffalo Chicken Cupcake, which was the first time I ever had a savory cupcake.

They recently competed on Cupcake Wars for the second time, taking home the title of Cupcake Wars Champtions! Lucky for me, [desi]gn cakes & cupcakes has their open shops here in Chino, which is literally down the street from my house so I made a trip over to pick up their Cupcake Wars Winning Flavors!

Two for the Road: A Review

Being a huge fan of food trucks and knowing their general whereabouts during the week, I'm ashamed to say I had never heard of Two for the Road before going to the IE Food Truck Festival. Their blue picnic table-esque painted truck easily catches the eye and forces you to at least scan their menu. Their drinks and chips are all retro to go with the theme of their 50's style comfort food. When I saw that they were specializing in seafood that day, I knew I had to read the whole list of specials to see if their creativity would lure me to eat there. I had to bypass the Lobster rolls, the shrimp BLT and salmon burgers and although it sounded delicious, I had seen it all before. And that's when I saw it, Cap'N Crunch crab cakes.

LA Street Food Fest Part 2 Sweet! : Lili's Review

Part 2 of this event will strictly be based on desserts, sweets and all the things that can make us happy and sick at the same time! There was a whole section of the Rose bowl that was dedicated to ice cream, donuts and an arrangement of baked goods.

LA Street Food Fest Part 1 Savory! : Lili's Review

The LA Street Food Festival!! My new favorite time of the year and a place where people like me gather and enjoy weird and decadent dishes from different parts of the world. As mentioned in Ashley's review right before mine, she introduced to you what the event was all about and the fine details about what we encountered. With that being said, I am just going to jump right into the food!

Chilled shrimp ceviche from Coni's Seafood . A good appetizer, right? So also a good way to start off the food festival especially in the thick 90 degree weather we were walking around in. It was refreshing, spicy and tangy with very few components. The simplicity of just the shrimp, tomato, onion and cucumber allowed the flavors to mesh well and also not to be too off-putting by being too fancy. I don't necessarily like tomatoes and less so in their chunky repulsive form but with the added chip to act as a crunchy spoon, it wasn't an issue. However, LOOK AT THE ONE CHIP THEY GAVE ME FOR ALL THAT CEVICHE. That is some unacceptable nonsense. I had to drink the rest of it and there was a lot of unnecessary slurping.

LA Street Food Fest: Ashley's Review

This weekend I had the absolute pleasure of attending the 3rd Annual LA Street Food Fest held at the Rose Bowl! It was my first year going and let me say, it definitely won't be my last! As you can tell from the title of this post, both Lili and I will be reviewing our time at the LA Street Food Fest. I'll be focusing more on the event itself and the meat dishes while Lili will discuss the vegetarian dishes and some desserts! Let's begin!
I arrived at the Rose Bowl at about 2:45. Media check-in was a little before 3 and I wanted to make sure I had everything in order before your other favorite CF (Chronicles of a Foodie) blogger Lili joined me! 3PM was when VIPs were let into the event, and I have to say, I feel like the first two hours of just VIPs felt more crowded then at 5PM when the General Admit ticket holders were let in. Lili and our friend Cathy met me at 3 and then we were officially off on our food adventure!

Mardi Gras at the Santa Anita Racetrack

This past Sunday I attended a Mardi Gras party at the Santa Anita Racetrack that was featuring grilled crawfish, live jazz bands, live horse racing, and food trucks galore! The racetrack is rather close to my house so I figured I could drive over there and fulfill all my foodie needs for the weekend and I can have some sort of pseudo Mardi Gras here in the LA area.

My Delight: A Review

When I picked up this mini cupcake from my box, I took a moment to appreciate the beauty and simplicity that went into designing a dessert that lived up to its flavor. The picture I took mostly captured the frosting and toppings, which in my opinion made My Delight one of my top three picks for best bakery.
The first bite wasn’t even about the red velvet; it was the frosting that highlighted the whole flavor experience and party in my mouth! The frosting had the classic cream cheese taste but was swirled with visible little black dots that came from the fresh vanilla bean the bakers used. However, what really captured the cheesecake-like theme were the crunchy golden graham cracker crumbs that covered the entire surface of the creamy and decadent frosting. These elements alone would have sold me and given me enough reason to decide that this cupcake was glorious and the brilliant artists behind it deserved praise, but the awe wasn’t over yet. There was a middle ingredient I wasn’t aware of at first, between the frosting and the red velvet cake. They had been glued them together with a slightly tart raspberry jam that oozed out from under the frosting after each bite. The fruit with the vanilla and the cocoa from the cake was the trifecta that all cupcakes should strive to achieve.
On a side note, I hope this wasn’t too biased of me but a few days after the LA Cupcake Challenge I discovered that My Delight had a food truck and they were going to be in my area. I thought it would be well worth it travel to them and try out some of their other flavors in full-sized form, and man was I glad I did.
Pictured above from left to right are the vegan cookies and cream, the snickerdoodle, and finally their flavor of the week the chocolate covered strawberry. Unfortunately the snickerdoodle flavor was not for me so I have no input on it other than its appearance made my mouth water. Anyways, as I’ve said in my ‘about me’ section of this blog, I will try anything vegan if it is available on the menu because I’m curious to see how vegan recipes can evolve and how creative chefs can get with them. This vegan dessert was outstanding and by no means did it shine any less in flavor compared to their dairy-filled options. It was creamy, light and crunchy and the frosting was an exact replication of the cream filling in a Nabisco Oreo. I was impressed and now have a whole new level of respect for their craft but that wasn’t the star of my night. The chocolate covered strawberry cupcake was fantastic and damn near evil. The chocolate cake and strawberry frosting met my high expectations of indulgent flavor, but the surprise was the fresh strawberries that hid so neatly and unexpectedly in the middle of the cake. Everything was a combination of juicy, soft and a little bit messy but I’m sold on these bakers and their ideas and in the future I will be going out of my way to stalk their truck when it drives through my town.

Dulcitas: A Review

Tres Leches Cupcake

This little piece of love (pictured below next to the chocolate cream puff cupcake) is what caused me to make the decision to put Dulcitas down as my number one favorite bakery on my ballot. The frosting wasn’t too sweet and had an evaporated milk flavor that went really well with the actual cake. The bottom was overly moist which is exactly how anyone should want their tres leches cake to be, almost dripping with sweetened condensed milk.
Tres Leches Cupcake (left)
It was touched lightly with cinnamon and with every miniature bite I got a hint of nutty aftertaste in the cake. Everything fell apart in my mouth and it took all my will power to not lick the cupcake wrapper in public. It did happen to be the first cupcake I tried out of my box and I thought I was being biased due to being overly excited about cupcakes but it still triumphed over everything I tasted that evening. The only sadness I felt towards this dessert was finding out that their bakery was a good 45 minute drive from me, and that’s on a day with no traffic. At the end of the event I personally went up to Dulcitas’ table and commended them on their fantastic creation. If I ever got the chance to visit their bakery I don't think I could bring myself to order anything besides a box full of the tres leches flavor. It was just that damn good.

Debiteful Cups: A Review

El Pastelito Caliente

Basically this was a cilantro-flavored cupcake made up of cornbread with chunks of bacon inside. I respect this bakery for trying to be creative with their savory cupcake flavor but I can’t give any compliments beyond that.
At first the smell of fresh cilantro and cornbread coming from the frosting lured me into thinking it was going to be a savory and spicy southwest treat. No. This cupcake was just short of horrifying and I couldn't bring myself to find too many positive qualities about it. The cornbread was overly dry and crumbled in my hand and it was spicy but had no complimenting flavors to go with it. It was the kind of spicy that made you wonder if the bakers did that on purpose. I thought the flavor of the bacon might help it but the chunks were so tiny and overly cooked that it just made the overall textured too chewy and grainy. I didn't even try a bite with the fresh cilantro leaf in it because I felt like the flavor of the main ingredient already overpowered the whole cupcake. It’s safe to say everyone that shared my table at this event felt like it was one of the worst they tasted. I’m really hoping this was a special event flavor and not something they sell in their bakery on a daily basis.

Double "D" Cupcakes: A Review

Love-Me-Mosa Cupcake

From the name of the cupcake you might be able to infer that it’s supposed to be a mimosa flavored dessert. I was so excited when the bakers from “D” Cupcakes handed this to me because it looked like a cupcake fit for a princess or just a really girly girl like myself. It was just covered in sparkles! How deliciously exciting!
Alas, the first bite was a little less than what I had hoped for and the whipped cream frosting with the champagne flavored gel was the only thing I could taste. The rest of the cake was a mouthful of solid nothing or maybe it had flavor but if the whipped cream frosting overpowered the main part of the dessert, then something is off. The idea was fancy, creative and sophisticated and it could have been a top contender with me if the cake had any essence of orange juice or alcohol. When it comes to alcohol flavored cupcakes in general I expect them to be overpowering and potent so maybe I’m not appreciating this cupcake for what it’s supposed to be; light. If someone is looking for a delicate flavor then the Love-Me-Mosa would be enjoyable, but I’m always looking for an outstanding and loud flavor and I just didn’t find it here.

Sugar Jones: A Review

For the following sixteen reviews the theme will be based on the LA Cupcake Challenge that I attended last week with Ashley. As foodies, we were blessed with opportunity to go to downtown LA and sample 36 cupcakes from 16 different bakeries in Southern California. Upon arriving we received a ballot card with a list of all the bakeries, which cupcakes they made and then three slots for the tasters to decide who should win first through third place. My mini reviews of each bakery will showcase the most creative cupcake that each competitor came up with and at the end I will post the pictures I have of the ballroom where the event took place.
Now onto the actual review...
Sweet Orange with Mexican Hot Chocolate Frosting
This cupcake I wanted to try right away just because of how vibrant the orange was and how well it stood out in my sea of delicious treats. The first thing I noticed about it was the light scent of fresh oranges that came from the cake and then I realized it had a fresh orange chunk on top of the frosting. The combination of flavors for this cupcake is best described as one of those orange chocolates you can rarely find anymore. You know the ones where you have to slam it on the table for it to break apart into textured pieces of chocolate that resemble an actual orange? Yes, that’s the exact flavor with a hint of spice from the frosting. The Mexican hot chocolate frosting was definitely a memorable taste at the event. The bakers at Sugar Jones really perfected the art of making this topping taste exactly like that hot drink. The chocolate was rich, smooth and spicy and because the orange cake had a really light flavor, they both paired beautifully together and made for a creative and aesthetically pleasing entry for the competition.

Bacon Mania: A Review

As a new addition to this awesome food blog I chose to start off with the Bacon Mania truck for my first review because honestly, when can you go wrong with bacon? I tried this truck a little over a week ago down in Brea where they have a weekly Friday night food truck event in a Best Buy parking lot. I immediately gravitated towards this truck not only because of its bright blue paint and cute insignia but also because of the mass amounts of people that were in line waiting to order. There really can be no better compliment than a swarm of people wanting to eat your food. Anyways, after assessing the menu and having a really fun conversation with the cashier, I didn’t hesitate on the option of their…wait for it… bacon macaroni and cheese.

The first bite of this dish, which on their menu is known as the Mac’n Bac’n, made it the whole 15-mile drive I took completely worth it. The whole base of the pasta was creamy with a custard-like texture and the noodles were cooked perfectly. Now, people can be picky about how they like their bacon cooked but I prefer mine to be a little soft and that’s what I received with this meal. The bacon was tender, chunky and in no small amount throughout the macaroni. To top off the dish they put a tangy, creamy (I’m just going to guess Chipotle) sauce on top to give it that extra kick with the sharp cheddar cheeses that were used. It’s not clarified on the menu what’s in the sauce but it definitely pairs well with the mild flavor of the macaroni and the saltiness of the bacon. The most difficult part of this experience was trying not to eat it in less than 45 seconds. You literally cannot stop shoveling that cheesy creation into your mouth. I recommend this truck to anyone out in the Orange County or Anaheim area since that’s where the truck usually sells food. However, in my case, I’ll be traveling the 25 minutes down the 57 freeway again so that I can hand over all my money and try everything on that menu.

Wonderland Custom Cakes: A Review

Last week I had the privilege of attending Wonderland Custom Cakes' Grand Opening in Old Town Pasadena. If you're a regular reader of Cupcakes Take The Cake you'll know I posted an interview with the owner, Anthony Valerio. Even under the stress of running his brand new shop Anthony and Vandy were kind enough to show me their kitchen! When I arrived at 11:00am they had already completely sold out of cupcakes! One of the employees let me know that they were baking more cupcakes at the moment and to come back in a few hours. I came back around 2:00 and they were still out! Fortunately, Anthony was kind enough to offer to send me cupcakes so I could still post this lovely review for you all!

Outside the Store Front

Anthony Valerio and his Aunt Vandy

Special Home Delivery!

Perfectly Packed!
Per Anthony's promise I came home late this week to a box of five perfectly packed cupcakes waiting for me! After carefully unwrapping and snapping shots of all of them I sat down with my family to begin the tasting!

Chocolate Bacon Caramel
Chocolate Bacon Caramel (Inside)
The first one we tried was the Chocolate Bacon Caramel cupcake. This cupcake is a "rich chocolate cake dipped in bacon-caramel and topped with a chocolate buttercream". I've had Maple Bacon cupcakes before but the combination of chocolate and bacon was completely new, and might I say, completely welcome! The cake itself was extremely moist and decadent. When they say rich they mean it. The frosting was fluffy and not overly sweet. The bacon and caramel flowed nicely together while the bacon also provided enough saltiness to balance out all the sweet factors of this cake.

Chai Latte
Chai Latte (Inside)
I'm obsessed with Chai Tea Lattes. Love them, can't get enough of them. This cupcake brings those flavors to life in a more satisfying way. Rather than only being able to drink chai I now have the option to eat it and savor an actual texture. The frosting was a spiced vanilla-orange buttercream topped with a star anise pod. This might have been my favorite of the bunch. I was hesitant about the orange mixing with the chai flavors I'm familiar with but they blended quite nicely together.

Royal Red Velvet
Royal Red Velvet (Inside)
With a name and look that's fit for a queen, this Royal Red Velvet is one of the best I've ever had. Red Velvets have become quite monotonous, in my opinion, in the cupcake world seeing as how there are little ways to redefine it from the standard Red Velvet with cream cheese frosting but this one actually does set itself apart from the rest. The cocoa was more prevalent here than in others I've tasted. The cream cheese frosting was extremely fluffy while the cream cheese wasn't overpowering. I love the texture that the red nonpareils added to the overall bite.

CinnaSwirl
CinnaSwirl (Inside)
Cinnamon buns. This is exactly what this cupcake emulates. A delicious, gooey, cinnalicious cinnamon bun. I barely got a bite of this treat because my little brothers devoured it in the blink of an eye. I wish there had been more of the cinnamon sugar swirl in the cake or at least maybe adding cinnamon to the cream cheese frosting. The ratio of cinnamon taste to frosting was delicious but I'm just someone who really enjoys cinnamon.

Biscotti

Biscotti (Inside)
This was the last cupcake I tasted. At first bite I couldn't place my finger on the flavor combo I was getting. I defnitely could taste some coffee in the frosting but the cake was confusing me because for some reason I kept tasting black licorice. At first I thought, "wow Ashley, you've had too many cupcakes and now you're on a sugar high losing your mind" but after some insightful googling I came to discover that anise tastes like black licorice. The Biscotti cupcake is described as being an "anise cake topped with coffee buttercream" so yay me for not going sugar crazy! I'm not a huge coffee fan so that's my main reasoning for this being my least favorite of the bunch but like all the other cupcakes in the box the cake was incredibly moist, creamy frosting, bursting flavors, which in turn results in yet another satisfying cupcake.

All in all, Wonderland Custom Cakes is a cupcakery that everyone needs to visit or order cupcakes from. These Cupcake War champions definitely earned their win. Anthony and his team aren't afraid to push the boundaries of conventional flavors and works hard to ensure that his cupcakes emulate what he bases them on.

If you're in the LA area head over to the new storefront to grab one of these sweet treats for yourself! If not, order online! Wonderland Custom Cakes ships!

Hime Sushi & Roll: A Review

Sorry for the delay in posts!!! I have a ton of stuff to post so I'll be doing that ASAP...the reviews may be a bit dated but rest assure they're still accurate! Now onto my review from lunch today!

I found this by complete accident over the weekend when I went to get some teriyaki from Waba Grill. The restaurant is brand new and the staff inside is just waiting for someone to come in and try it out. They have a grand opening banner outside and a special of 20% off your whole bill through January 31st. I went back today to try it and ended up spending $17.58 for a lunch big enough to feed two people or more...including sodas!

Red Bull Roll

Inside the Red Bull Roll

We ordered the Red Bull Roll, it was a roll filled with the california roll essentials and shrimp tempura topped with spicy tuna, tempura bits, and two types of sauces. It was pretty spicy so be forewarned. It's not quite as good as other sushi places that I've had a similar roll at but it was pretty good for the price. Fresh, crunchy, spicy and not overly fishy.

Two Item Lunch Special
Inside the Shrimp Tempura Roll
The Chicken Teriyaki left much to be desired. My mom's first bite was a big hunk of fat so she spit it out and was immediately turned off by the remainder of the bento. The chicken was skinless and seemed to be thigh meat, which is the standard at most sushi places. It had teriyaki sauce and sesame seed on top. The teriyaki sauce wasn't the most flavorful and the chicken just was about C quality taste wise. The bento included a Shrimp Tempura roll, which was pretty much the same thing as our Red Bull roll minus the spicy tuna. It was actually pretty tasty.

Wasabi Leaf! How Cute!

We also received miso soup and salad with our meals. The detail to presentation is definitely something this restaurant should be complimented on. The wasabi was shaped like a leaf with detail and all. Our orange slices were shaped to look like what I thought were little sunburst and we had some fun shaped carrots in our steamed veggies.

And who says you can't play with your food?

All in all, this restaurant is pretty good for the prices (especially with the special going on right now!) The prices are really good even without the 20% off. I'm giving them three stars because they are a new restaurant and will most likely get better with more reviews and customers, also their prices may be the best for a sushi place in all of Chino/Chino Hills. They can't serve alcohol yet as they're still waiting on their liquor license but the restaurant does promote it being "fine Japanese cuisine and spirits" so when they can serve up the booze (they said in February) this should become a pretty good place for dinner.

No Tomatoes: A Review

So for the past two Fridays a food truck by the name of No Tomatoes made a stop at my office for lunch. The No Tomatoes truck is an Indian Food truck that got it's name for the way the owners usually order their food...with no tomatoes! Pretty clever huh? Anywho, they had a really good combo for $9, an entree, 3 samosas and a drink.
Chicken Tikka Masala

The first week the truck came I ordered what I always get at Indian restaurants, Chicken Tikka Masala. The aroma coming from the tikka masala was indeed mouth-watering so I was excited to take that first bite...and I was really disappointed in how dry the chicken was. The tomato based sauce (this was the only dish on the menu that was made with tomatoes) was spicy, not overly hot but contained a slow heat that started in the back of mouth and slowly creeped forward. Aside from the heat it was buttery and smooth, very complementary to the rice. The bite of the chopped red onion added crunch and bite to the dish.

Chicken Tikka Masala, Spinach Paneer Samosas, Mango Lassi

The Samosas were filled with spinach and paneer (a type of Indian cheese). These little triangular puff pastries were insanely delish. They were a good size, especially for having three to an order. The samosas were perfectly golden brown, not greasy, flaky, buttery, and were absolutely stuffed with the filling. The order included a mint chutney that was minty yet packed some heat...it wasn't overly minty but was a nice sauce for the samosas.

Mango Lassi's are drinks made up of mango pulp, water and yogurt. It's thick like a smoothie, sweet and a much needed drink when you're chowing on some spicy Indian food.

Vegetarian Biryani Rice and Mixed Samosas
The second week they showed up I decided not to go for a chicken dish but instead ordered the vegetarian Biryani Rice. I also got the mixed Samoas this time around.

The Vegetarian Biryani Rice had paneer and potatoes instead of meat. The rice itself is a saffron based rice, a flavor that is easy to identify right off the bat if you've been lucky enough to have it before. For those of you who don't know saffron is a crazy expensive spice that's used in Turkish, Persian, South and Central Asian, and many other countries. It adds a distinctive yellow-orange hue to dishes. This dish was a texture explosion. The paneer was grilled so it was chewy and soft, not as soft as cooked tofu but something along the lines of a firm tofu without the crumble. The potatoes were soft but weren't overly soft so they fell apart in the dish, they held their shape. The rice was fluffy and packed with flavor and the red onion added bite and crunch. The mint chutney once again added a nice heat and light minty flavor.

Overall, I really enjoyed my experiences at this truck. It can be hard to find really good Indian food and what could be better than having authentic Indian cuisine on wheels that comes to you?! I recommend you follow them on twitter so you can taste these dishes for yourself.
